Topic description

Concept: Kerala is highly prone to variety of natural hazards, such as cyclones, flood, landslides, drought and heatwaves. Each of which impacts health differently in the short, medium and long term based on duration, intensity and type. Knowing what these effects are likely to be can help in developing response efforts.

Topic objectives and methodology

Objectives: Review diseases and timing of diseases for a variety of disasters (flood, heat/drought, epidemic, etc). Assess similarities/differences between events for the short-term or long term post disaster. Provide recommendations for enhancing the design of monitoring capabilities during disasters.
