Intra urban spatial Patterns and Processes
Depending on the case study that the student wishes to develop fieldwork may be required (Own country is also possible if secondary data and local support are guaranteed). There is the possibility of doing fieldwork in Enschede as well.
(Urban) QoL studies focus on objective and subjective QoL conditions and their interplay with current urban challenges. This topic aims to elicit residents' satisfaction to various domains of life such as housing, income, environment, health and (access to) infrastructure. The combination of subjective and objective measures allows comparing variations between residents' and experts' (e.g. planners) views.
Depending on student experience and interest, emphasis can be given to specific QoL domains, impacts on socio-economic groups (e.g. elderly, children, women, students, and migrants) and/or interplay with current urban challenges (e.g. inequalities, fragmentation, urban vulnerability).
Depending on the specific questions, a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods (QUAN-QUAL) is envisioned; e.g., qualitative data analysis, Qualitative GIS and mobile data capture, walking interviews, photographic recording, Computer-assisted/Aided Qualitative Data Analysis (CAQDAS); survey and statistical analysis.
Spatial analysis of QoL variations and different input methods and participatory tools could be included (e.g. mobile spatial data collection, 360 cameras, interactive map tables).
