Description

This topic is part of the EO4SD-Coastal and Marine Resources Management Project.

Objectives and Methodology

Use Sentinel 1 and Sentinel-2MSI images to detect and identify land-based pollution in coastal areas. You will use a combined active-microwave and passive-optical methods detect and identify untreated sludge and oil spills in coastal areas.
You will use Sentinel-1 dual polarization to detect oil spill in coastal areas, apply the 2SeaColor model (Salama and Verhoef 2015) on Sentinel-2 MSI to derive water quality variables and use color/polarization indicators to identify untreated sludge.

Carry out calibration and validation and apply the develop method(s) to at least one year of satellite data and study the spatiotemporal dynamics of land-based pollution in the area.
